Nice to meet you. My name is Jouni Kaplas. I'm a designer, coder and web enthusiast from Tampere, Finland. I believe in a world where people live in total tranquility, where simpler is better and where divs are mightier than tables.
I made my first website when I was 11. And that was in 1996. Since then I've created a bunch of those more, learned to write code in various language and studied things like business and entertainment & media management. I won a national Finnish website design competition when I was 16. After that I decided to make a fortune with my skills. It haven't worked out too well yet, but I've learned a lot of things while trying. At least IT and Web became my profession; I just graduated as a MSc in tech last year.
I truly believe that with the advancements of technology we can make this world of ours a better place. Especially Web and mobile technologies will help the lives of billions of people like we couldn't even dream about a few decades ago. I want to be part of making the world a little bit better. And that's not just a dream, because I've decided to write my part of that story.
Speaking with people (that includes both nerds and normal ones). Networking. Presenting stuff. Designing and implementing stuff. Learning.
I also recognize a lot of acronyms: HTML, CSS, {Less}, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, JSON, REST, PHP, Perl, Java, J2EE, Spring, Hibernate, Oracle Portal, Oracle WCS, C++, C, QT, QML and Symbian C++ to name a few.
Various things such as ice skating. I've never learned to skate well even though I'm a finn. Stopping is the harders part.
Professionally wise I suck at complicated things and structures. I'm a simple man, and that's why I try to focus on keeping things simple when I make stuff. Yeah, complicated data models and 15-layer database architectures are nice ones if you're into that kind of stuff. I'm not.
I'm more than open to any discussions I may have with you. So please, drop me a message.
